Without higher plans, you're going to fail. As a freelancer, you need to be equipped with the right mentality to succeed. You'll meet several guys looking for freelancers and very many freelancers will apply for them, but how will you be chosen from that bunch of shit.
Remember that most guys there aren't natural. If you read that an Indian lady who has applied for the same job has a masters in creative writing. Forget it. It's a lie because there's no evidence.
For better odds of success, you need to employ the following;
1. Be normal
Speak normally about your skills and never exaggerate anything because you are paid for the work you have completed. If you exaggerate and then fail to meet your requirements, you'll receive bad reviews which affect you chances of success.
2. Have time and equipment
Freelancers need time and the right equipment to succeed. You are going to be called to work anytime so, you need to be ready.
The equipment needed is a fully functioning list of software corresponding to your skill. Writers should have doc editors, pdf, Excel, and text editors and readers for better communication.
Clients are going to be sending instructions in different document formats so, get ready.
3. Have a portfolio
I spoke about this before. You need evidence of your creativity. With this, I advise many guys to invest in themselves before jumping for freelancing.
If you're a writer, get a blog. If you're a computer developer or designer, have a portfolio online. If you're a musician, have some records online.
Freelancing is an act of help by people already in the industry to those who can't fullfil what is expected because of their own reasons.
Never go for freelancing with a hope to make money faster with no credibility.
You'll waste your effort and become depressed for nothing. You might even think that we lied to you.
If it comes to that, remember that failure is Paramount to success. Keep going or switch to another endeavor to earn something for yourself.
One thing I know is that most people settle down for a normal job at around thirty. They stop searching for opportunities and decide to sit back and care for their families.
Your goal here is to try so many things before life catches up with you. When life does so, your potential for discovery reduces. At that moment, you'll be staying with someone's daughter. Some might even have a bunch of kids.
That means that you have to work for a certain minimum amount every month to keep them happy.
