When you are a beginner in the blogosphere, selecting which content management system(CMS) to pursue makes it hard to decide whether you want to use blogger or WordPress. I am going to break the pros and cons then I will tell you which CMS to go for and why.
In giving the pros and cons, I guarantee my impartiality. Blogging is not easy by itself and the difficulty in selecting your CMS will make you jump from one place to another. I have used simplesite, WordPress, blogger, wix and many other CMSs. One thing I realized is that you shouldn’t consider any other blogging CMS apart from blogger or WordPress. This is because blogger and WordPress are day to day CMSs so, when you use a subdomain, people will kind of ignore the something.blogspot.com and see you as something.com.
Without wasting time, let me open them up to you. Before you decide to take my advice, consider what you are and what you want to make out of your site.
What to look for in a CMS
When making decisions, see to it that your CMS provides you with all that you want. If you need free hosting with high online storage, consider a CMS with so much cloud storage for their free plan.
If you are a savvy tech developer, look for a system that will enable you exercise your rights as a developer.
Some people look for ways to make money with less investment. To do that, you need a CMS that can provide you with space for making some side income from your blogging in the free or cheap plans.
You might be sharing dynamic content and that means that you have to look for a system with great templates to allow you style your content appropriately.
Sometimes, you need freedom to post articles once and let the system do all the extra work. If you are one of those, you should look for a CMS with very improved automation to help you.
WordPress
WordPress is a dynamic CMS with so many tools to help with development. It’s also a great option for simple no-work, but brilliant sites. About 30% of all the web uses WordPress.
Pros
Paid plans are cheap at about 3 dollars per month with a custom domain.
There are many dynamic templates. These are increased in the premium plans.
The usage is very simple.
SEO is simple by use of SEO plugins.
There are hundreds of thousands of widgets and gadgets guaranteeing freedom of design.
Cons
Hard coding using Html, css and JavaScript is nearly impossible. Once you customize with html, the customized code disappears and you can’t correct anything.
Payment is required to get great service.
You can’t make money easily in the free plan.
The designer web app is slow to loading.
Blogger
Blogger is a Google-powered CMS with a .blogspot extension for its subdomains. It’s well known for its integration with your Google account.
Pros
The initial storage is 15GB which is your email's storage.
It’s great for savvy technology guys as it allows simple customization.
Monetizing the blog is simple and on the go.
You can power the site on a custom domain by setting it up easily.
You can use any type of external templates.
Google indexing and crawling is faster.
Cons
The initial templates are so static. They provide very simple layouts.
The SEO is manual you have to do most of the work.
The site isn’t so easy to use.
Should you use Blogger or WordPress
This is the greatest decision to make. As per my use of the two systems, I would recommend you to use blogger if you want to start a free site and make some money because money is what everyone is searching for. If you want to start a site with a custom domain, WordPress should be your shot.
Before I sum up, you should know that your pocket decides whether you select WordPress or blogger for a custom domain. On Blogger, you can have free hosting while only paying the yearly fee for a custom domain.
If you have any questions on WordPress or Blogger, dump them in the comments section. If you are serious about this, know that it’s a hard journey because you are on your way to win search engine algorithms in fights and it takes long.
