How to add a custom domain to blogspot - x-droov

Once you are started with blogspot, you are likely to fall into a maze to add a custom domain name to your blogspot. By default, Blogger provides a subdomain name something like x-droov.blogspot.com. That domain name is owned by Blogger and will continue to be until you buy your own domain name.
Throughout this article, I'll let you know how to configure a custom domain and what you really need to get it. Be sure to comment any concerns or share the article with your friends. Blogger is really the cheapest hosting site if you want to hold a website online. That's an advantage that I will explain as we go.

Steps to follow when adding a custom domain to Blogger

1. Register for a domain name

One thing you need to know is that you can only register your domain through Google and nowhere else, but I will tip you on how to get a domain name from any other DNS(Domain Name Server) apart from Google.
Getting a domain for your blog from Google
You simply have to navigate to domains.google.com with your Google account and search for a new domain. Once done, you can then select the extension type like com, net, org or any other. Extensions differ in price, but I assume you are going for com. The .com domain name costs $12 per year. That's very low compared to Wordpress' cheapest plan which is around $4 per month.
I don't know why you need to buy from another DNS yet prices are nearly the same. Take an example. domain.com offers .com domain names at the same price as Google, but I can't force you to buy from Google so read the next part for how to buy from another DNS.
Buying a domain name for your blogspot from any other DNS
There are two steps here. You might need a different domain name from yours or you might need the same custom domain as the subdomain you are using. If you need a different domain, simply buy it from another DNS, but if you need the same name, follow the steps below;
1. Change your subdomain name to one that's similar to the current name or permanently delete your blog from the settings.
2. If you deleted the blog, start another one with a similar name.
3. Once you are done, buy your domain from another DNS

2. Add your domain name to Blogger

Once you have bought the name,  add it to your blog by moving to settings and adding a custom domain as shown below.
You'll now be able to access your blog using both the subdomain and the custom domain, but that is bad. We want all subdomain visits to redirect to the custom domain.

3. Redirecting your subdomain visits

In the settings, check on the redirect box below your custom domain.
Once you are done, everything will be working pretty good.

Conclusion

You need a custom domain for proper branding and authority. As x-droov, we don't have a custom domain and we are not willing to go for it in the present. To find out why, keep watch. I'll be dropping an article about that.
Light up the comments. Thanks for reading till the end. Nice time learning on x-droov.
